Taxonomy: Carbo capillatus Temminck and Schlegel, 1850, Japan.
Synonymous with P. filamentosus. May form superspecies with P. carbo. Monotypic.
Distribution: Coasts of NE Asia from extreme SE coast of USSR and Sea of Japan to Sakhalin and South Kuril Is, and also S to Japan and Korea.
