Taxonomy: Diomedea demersa Linnaeus, 1758, Cape of Good Hope.
Sometimes considered conspecific with S. humboldti and S. magellanicus; alternatively they may form superspecies (see page 141). Monotypic.
Distribution: South Africa and Namibia.
