Taxonomy: Artamus monachus Bonaparte, 1850, Sulawesi.
Forms a superspecies with A. maximus and A. insignis, this group perhaps including also A. leucorynchus and A. mentalis. Birds from Sula Is described as a geographical race, sulaensis, but regarded as insufficiently differentiated from those in rest of species' range. Treated as monotypic.
Distribution: Sulawesi, Lembeh, Banggai Is and Sula Archipelago.
