Taxonomy: Ardea Grayii Sykes, 1832, Deccan, India.
Forms superspecies with A. bacchus, A. speciosa and perhaps A. idae. Monotypic.
Distribution: N Persian Gulf E through Indian Subcontinent and Sri Lanka to Burma; also Laccadives and Maldives, Andamans and Nicobars.
