Taxonomy: Ibis papillosa Temminck, 1824, India and Ceylon.
Forms superspecies with P. davisoni, which is often considered race of present species. Monotypic.
Distribution: Pakistan, Nepal and India, southwards to Mysore and eastwards to Assam; perhaps also in Arakan (W Burma).
