Taxonomy: Spheniscus Humboldti Meyen, 1834, Peru.
Sometimes considered conspecific with S. demersus and S. magellanicus; alternatively they may form superspecies (see page 141). Monotypic.

Distribution: Coasts of Chile and Peru, in region of Humboldt Current.
