Taxonomy: Querquedula hottentota Eyton, 1838, western coast of South Africa, near Orange River, Cape Province.
Sometimes placed, together with A. versicolor, in genus Punanetta. Synonym A. punctata rejected. Monotypic.
Distribution: L Chad; Ethiopia to Cape Province; Madagascar.
