Taxonomy: Pachycephala implicata E. J. O. Hartert, 1929, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands.
A member of a species group that includes also P. orpheus, P. nudigula, P. meyeri, P. soror, P. lorentzi, P. schlegelii, P. pectoralis, P. caledonica, P. jacquinoti, P. flavifrons, P. melanura and P. aurea. Races exhibit distinct male and female plumage differences, and possibly better treated as two separate species. Two subspecies recognized.
