Taxonomy: Francolinus icterorhynchus Heuglin, 1863, Bongo River, Bahr el Ghazal, Sudan.
Forms superspecies with F. clappertoni, F. bicalcaratus and F. harwoodi. Has been included in genus Chaetopus. Recently proposed reorganization of Francolinus places present species in genus Pternistis with 23 other species. Proposed race dybowski is an example of clinal variation and does not merit subspecific status. Monotypic.
Distribution: Central African Republic, S Sudan, N Zaire and W Uganda.
