Taxonomy: Otis Hartlaubii Heuglin, 1863, eastern Sennar, Sudan.
Genus frequently merged with Eupodotis. Present species forms superspecies with L. melanogaster. Monotypic.
Distribution: E Sudan through Ethiopia to NW & S Somalia, NE Uganda, NW & S Kenya and N Tanzania.
