Taxonomy: Hypotaenidia owstoni Rothschild, 1895, Guam.
Sometimes placed in Hypotaenidia or Rallus. Forms superspecies with G. philippensis, and perhaps with G. rovianae; probably also with extinct G. wakensis, G. pacificus, G. dieffenbachii and G. modestus. Monotypic.
Distribution: Guam (extinct in wild).Recently introduced to nearby Rota I.
