Taxonomy: Incaspiza ortizi J. T. Zimmer, 1952, near La Esperanza, 1800 m, Cajamarca, Peru.
Forms a superspecies, and sometimes considered conspecific, with I. pulchra and I. personata. Monotypic.

Distribution: NW Peru, very locally in NE Piura, C Cajamarca and NE La Libertad.
