Other common names: Slender Teal; Andaman Grey/Andaman Teal (albogularis); East Indian/Indonesian Grey Teal, Sunda Teal (gibberifrons); Australian/Australasian Grey Teal (gracilis)

Taxonomy: Anas (Mareca) gibberifrons S. Müller, 1842, Celebes.
Sometimes placed in genus Nettion. Forms superspecies with A. bernieri. Subspecies gracilis often considered full species. Race remissa of Rennell I, Solomon Is, extinct. Three living subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • albogularis (Hume, 1873) - Andaman Is and Great Coco I.
  • gibberifrons S. Müller, 1842 - Java and Sulawesi to Timor and Wetar I.
  • gracilis Buller, 1869 - New Guinea to New Caledonia and Australia to New Zealand.
