Grey-sided Laughingthrush (Dryonastes caerulatus) - HBW 12, p. 231

French: Garrulaxe à flancs gris German: Grauflankenhäherling Spanish: Charlatán Flanquigrís

Taxonomy: Cinc[losoma]. Cærulatus Hodgson, 1836, Nepal.
Genus traditionally subsumed in Garrulax, but differs in some small details of morphology. Closely related to and may form a superspecies with D. berthemyi and D. poecilorhynchus; in the past all three were treated as conspecific. Five subspecies recognized.

  • caerulatus ( Hodgson, 1836) - C Nepal E to Bhutan and NE India (Arunachal Pradesh except SE).
  • subcaerulatus ( Hume, 1878) - Meghalaya and adjacent S Assam, in NE India.
  • livingstoni ( Ripley, 1952) - SE Arunachal Pradesh S to Mizoram (NE India) and adjacent NW Myanmar.
