Taxonomy: Cinc[losoma]. Cærulatus Hodgson, 1836, Nepal.
Genus traditionally subsumed in Garrulax, but differs in some small details of morphology. Closely related to and may form a superspecies with D. berthemyi and D. poecilorhynchus; in the past all three were treated as conspecific. Five subspecies recognized.

- caerulatus ( Hodgson, 1836) - C Nepal E to Bhutan and NE India (Arunachal Pradesh except SE).
- subcaerulatus ( Hume, 1878) - Meghalaya and adjacent S Assam, in NE India.
- livingstoni ( Ripley, 1952) - SE Arunachal Pradesh S to Mizoram (NE India) and adjacent NW Myanmar.
- caerulatus ( Hodgson, 1836) - C Nepal E to Bhutan and NE India (Arunachal Pradesh except SE).
- subcaerulatus ( Hume, 1878) - Meghalaya and adjacent S Assam, in NE India.
- livingstoni ( Ripley, 1952) - SE Arunachal Pradesh S to Mizoram (NE India) and adjacent NW Myanmar.
- latifrons ( Rothschild, 1926) - extreme NE Myanmar and adjacent S China (NW Yunnan).
- kaurensis Rippon, 1901 - E Myanmar and adjacent W Yunnan.
