Taxonomy: Pavo bicalcaratus Linnaeus, 1758, China; error = Thoungyah, Burma.
Sometimes considered to form a superspecies with P. germaini. Five subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- bakeri Lowe, 1925 - hills of NE India and Bhutan, from Sikkim E to Manipur, and maybe on into Burma.
- bailyi Lowe, 1925 - unknown; thought to occur in W Assam or E Himalayas.
- bicalcaratum (Linnaeus, 1758) - W & S Burma E through CS China (W Yunnan) to NW Vietnam and SE to SW Thailand (N of Isthmus of Kra).
