Taxonomy: Camaroptera concolor Hartlaub, 1857, Guinea.
This species and M. flavicans and M. kempi have in the past been considered to be babblers (Timaliidae). Forms a superspecies with M. pulitzeri. E populations (DRCongo and Uganda) described as a geographical race, grisescens, but considered not diagnosable. Monotypic.
Distribution: Sierra Leone, S Guinea and Liberia E to S Ghana, and from S Nigeria and S Cameroon S, incuding Bioko I (Fernando Póo), to PRCongo and E to SW Central African Republic, DRCongo (except SE), W & S Uganda and extreme NE Angola.
