Taxonomy: Dryonastes Maesi Oustalet, 1890, Tam Dao Mountains, Tonkin, Vietnam.
Formerly treated as conspecific with G. castanotis. Birds in NE part of range described as a geographical race, grahami, but inseparable from individuals elsewhere in species’ range. Monotypic.
Distribution: SE China (SC Sichuan, extreme NE & SE Yunnan, N & SE Guizhou, Guangxi, N Guangdong) and N Vietnam (NW & E Tonkin).
