Taxonomy: Leptoxyura semicinerea Reichenbach, 1853, Bahia, Brazil.
Relationships within genus uncertain. Plumage differences of proposed races pallidiceps (from Ceará), described as paler throughout, and goyana (from S Goiás), said to have darker crown and auriculars and more conspicuous supercilium, evidently represent individual variation. Monotypic.

Distribution: E Brazil, from Ceará and Alagoas S to S Goiás, extreme N Minas Gerais and Bahia.
