Taxonomy: Pluvianus cinereus Blyth, 1842, Calcutta.
Sometimes placed in genus Hoplopterus or, formerly, in monospecific Microsarcops. Monotypic.
Distribution: NE China, neighbouring parts of Russia and Japan; possibly C Manchuria and Inner Mongolia. Non-breeding in S Asia from Nepal, NE India and Bangladesh to SC China, N Indochina and Taiwan, occasionally further S.
