Taxonomy: Falco Ichthyaetus Horsfield, 1821, Java.
Population of Sri Lanka sometimes awarded separate race, plumbeiceps, which differs only in slightly smaller size; not normally accepted. Monotypic.
Distribution: India, Nepal and Sri Lanka E through Indochina and Malay Peninsula to Greater Sundas, N & E Philippines and Sulawesi.
