Taxonomy: Trochilus largipennis Boddaert, 1783, Cayenne.
Four subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- aequatorialis Gould, 1861 - E Colombia, E Ecuador, E Peru and N Bolivia to NW Brazil.
- largipennis (Boddaert, 1783) - E Venezuela, the Guianas and R Negro region of NW Brazil.
- obscurus Gould, 1848 - E Pará and Maranhão (NE Brazil).
- diamantinensis Ruschi, 1963 - Serra Espinhaço in Minas Gerais (SE Brazil).
