Taxonomy: Pr[inia]. Hodgsonii Blyth, 1844, Mirzapur by the Ganges, India.
Most closely related to P. rufescens, which shares its habit of sewing nest into leaves, but the two are vocally and morphologically quite different. Six subspecies recognized.

  • rufula Godwin-Austen, 1874 - Himalayan foothills from N Pakistan (Muree) E to NE India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya), upland Bangladesh and W Myanmar.
  • hodgsonii Blyth, 1844 - W & C India E to lowlands of Bangladesh and Myanmar (Irrawaddy lowlands).
  • albogularis Walden, 1870 - S & SE India (S Karnataka Kerala, W Tamil Nadu, and Eastern Ghats S from Vishakhapatnam district).
