Taxonomy: Tringa Ocrophus [sic] Linnaeus, 1758, Sweden.
Monotypic.

Distribution: Scandinavia and E Europe through C Asia to E Siberia; isolated population in Kyrgyzstan and NW Xinjiang. Winters in Mediterannean and tropical Africa, and from Turkey through Middle East and Indian Subcontinent to S Japan, E China, Philippines and N Borneo; small wintering populations in W & WC Europe, and in sheltered valleys of Tien Shan zone.
