Taxonomy: Anas Marila Linnaeus, 1761, Lapland.
Considered by some to form superspecies with A. affinis. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- marila (Linnaeus, 1761) - N Eurasia from Iceland to R Lena, Siberia.
- mariloides (Vigors, 1839) - NE Siberia, from R Lena eastwards to Bering Sea coast; Aleutian Is; Alaska eastwards through C Canada to Atlantic coast of Canada.
