Greater Kestrel (Falco rupicoloides) - HBW 2, p. 261

Other common names: White-eyed Kestrel

Taxonomy: Falco Rupicoloides A. Smith, 1829, South Africa.
May form superspecies with F. alopex, but quite different in ecology and proportions. Three subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • fieldi (Elliot, 1897) - N & E Ethiopia, NW Somalia.
  • arthuri (Gurney, 1884) - NE Tanzania, Kenya.
  • rupicoloides A. Smith, 1829 - Namibia, Botswana, SW Zambia and Zimbabwe to South Africa.
