Taxonomy: Procellaria Gravis O'Reilly, 1818, Cape Farewell and Staten Hook to Newfoundland.
May form superspecies with P. creatopus and P. carneipes. Monotypic.
Distribution: Nightingale and Inaccessible Is (Tristan da Cunha), Gough I; Kidney I (Falkland Is).
