Other common names: Sapphirewing, Paramo/Temminck’s Sapphirewing
Taxonomy: Trochilus cyanopterus Fraser, 1840, Bogotá, Colombia.
Genus closely related to Coeligena, and should perhaps be merged therein. Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- cyanopterus (Fraser, 1840) - E Andes of NC Colombia (Santander, Cundinamarca).
- caeruleus Zimmer, 1951 - Colombia, in C Andes (S from Tolima) and extreme SW Andes (Nariño).
- peruvianus Boucard, 1895 - Ecuador, Peru and N Bolivia.
