Thrushes (Turdidae)
Grandala (Grandala coelicolor) - HBW 10, p. 715
French: Grandala bleu
German: Grandala
Spanish: Zorzal Grandala
Other common names: Hodgson’s Grandala
Taxonomy: Gr.(andala) côelicolar [sic] Hodgson, 1843, Nepal.
Position within turdine clade unclear. Highly distinctive, and has been proposed that it merits placement in its own family, Grandalidae. Earlier suggestion of relationship with Sialia now considered very improbable. Monotypic.
Distribution: NW Himalayas E to Bhutan, and C China (E Qinghai and SW Gansu S to N Yunnan); highland movements as far S as N Myanmar in winter.
