Toucans (Ramphastidae)
Gould's Toucanet (Selenidera gouldii) - HBW 7, p. 256
French: Toucanet de Gould
German: Gouldarassari
Spanish: Tucanete de Gould
Taxonomy: Pteroglossus Gouldii Natterer, 1837, Pará, Brazil.
Probably forms a superspecies with S. nattereri, S. reinwardtii and S. maculirostris; S. culik and S. spectabilis have sometimes been included too, but these two appear to differ from others in voice and display behaviour. Closely related to S. maculirostris, and may be conspecific, as sometimes treated. Populations named as races hellmayri (NC Brazil) and baturitensis (NE Brazil) appear to represent clinal variation of trivial nature, size decreasing eastwards; either or both of these sometimes placed in S. maculirostris. Monotyp.. View all taxonomy...
