Taxonomy: Amadina Gouldiae Gould, 1844, Victoria River, Northern Territory, Australia.
Often separated in a monotypic genus, Chloebia; recent studies of mitochondrial phylogeny indicate that this species is basal to the other members of present genus. Monotypic.
Distribution: N Australia N of 20° S: in N Western Australia (Kimberley Division), N Northern Territory, and N Queensland (mainly in base of Cape York Peninsula).
