Other common names: Cuzco Warbler (chrysogaster); Chocó Warbler (chlorophrys)
Taxonomy: Setophaga chrysogaster Tschudi, 1844, Chanchamayo Valley, Juní.
Closely related to and may form a superspecies with B. bivittatus; the two are separated altitudinally in small area of S Peru where ranges overlap. Races geographically discrete and have recently been treated by some authors as two distinct species, based primarily on significant differences in song. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- chlorophrys Berlepsch, 1907 - Andes of SW Colombia and W Ecuador (S to Chimborazo).
- chrysogaster ( Tschudi, 1844) - E slope of Andes in C & S Peru and W Bolivia.
