Taxonomy:
Anas strepera Linnaeus, 1758, Europe.
Sometimes placed in monospecific genus Chaulelasmus. Race couesi, Coues' Gadwall, described from Washington and New York Is, C Pacific, apparently not seen after its discovery in 1874 and considered extinct. Monotypic.
Distribution: Widespread over great part of Palearctic and Nearctic Regions.
