Taxonomy: Trochilus rubinoides Bourcier and Mulsant, 1846, Colombia.
Three subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • rubinoides (Bourcier & Mulsant, 1846) - C & E Andes of Colombia.
  • aequatorialis (Gould, 1860) - W slope of Andes in Colombia and Ecuador.
  • cervinigularis (Salvin, 1892) - E slope of Andes in Ecuador and Peru.
