Taxonomy: Furnarius fasciatus Swainson, 1838, Peru.
Has been thought to form a superspecies with C. albobrunneus, C. nuchalis and C. zonatus. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- pallescens Lafresnaye, 1846 - SW & S Ecuador (S from Guayas, including Puna I) S to N Peru (Tumbes, N Piura).
- fasciatus (Swainson, 1838) - arid coastal regions of Peru from Piura S to NW Lima, probably also E of R Marañón (Amazonas S to Huánuco).
