Other common names: Fairy Dove/Blue/Dove/Gould Petrel, Short billed/Narrow billed Prion, Whalebird
Taxonomy: Procellaria turtur Kuhl, 1820, no locality.
Sometimes includes P. crassirostris, with which probably forms superspecies. Some authorities subdivide, accepting race subantarctica for populations to S of New Zealand. Monotypic.
Distribution: Subtropical and subantarctic, from Falkland Is and South Georgia eastwards through S Indian Ocean to SE Australia and New Zealand area.
