Taxonomy: Charadrius Morinellus Linnaeus, 1758, Sweden.
Often placed in genus Eudromias, but possibly quite closely related to some or all of C. asiaticus, C. veredus, C. modestus and C. montanus. Monotypic.
Distribution: N Britain through Scandinavia and N Siberia to Chukotskiy Peninsula, and NE Kazakhstan and NW China (NW Xinjiang) E through S Siberia and N Mongolia to SE Russia; irregularly in Pyrenees, Alps, Carpathians, and also sporadically elsewhere in Europe, Caucasus and NW Alaska. Winters in N Africa and Middle East E to W Iran.
