Taxonomy: Vultur Monachus Linnaeus, 1766, Arabia.
Sometimes considered to be congeneric with genera Torgos, Sarcogyps and Trigonoceps. Possible races chincou/chinou of China and danieli of Mongolia not generally recognized. Monotypic.

Distribution: S Palearctic, from Spain, Balearic Is and Balkans through Turkey, Caucasus, Iran and Afghanistan to S Siberia, Mongolia, N China and extreme N India. Winters S to Sudan, Middle East, Pakistan, NW India and Korea.
