Taxonomy: Callene aequatorialis Jackson, 1906, Kericho, Lumbwa, Kenya.
Previously treated as conspecific with S. cyornithopsis. Two subspecies recognized.

- acholiensis Macdonald, 1940 - Imatong Mts, in S Sudan.
- aequatorialis (Jackson, 1906) - E DRCongo, S Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and W Kenya.
