Other common names: Larger/Spotted Emu
Taxonomy: Casuarius N. Hollandiae Latham, 1790, Sydney, New South Wales.
Race diemenensis of Tasmania extinct. Some authorities recognize three surviving races, novaehollandiae, woodwardi and rothschildi, while extinct species D. ater (=minor) and D. baudinianus (=diemenianus) have also been considered mere races of present species. Monotypic.
Distribution: Australia. Introduced to Kangaroo I and Maria I (both off S Australia).
