Taxonomy: Thalassidroma gracilis Elliot, 1859, west coast of South America.
Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- gracilis (Elliot, 1859) - Ecuador S to C Chile, with breeding recorded only at Chungungo I off Chile, 29° S.
- galapagoensis Lowe, 1921 - presumably breeds at Galapagos Is.
