Taxonomy: Picumnus sclateri Taczanowski, 1877, Lechugal, Peru.
Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- parvistriatus Chapman, 1921 - W Ecuador from Manabí S to Guayas.
- sclateri Taczanowski, 1877 - SW Ecuador (El Oro, Loja) and extreme NW Peru.
- porcullae Bond, 1954 - NW Peru from C Piura S to N Lambayeque.
