Taxonomy: Ardea sacra Gmelin, 1789, Tahiti.
Sometimes placed in genus Demigretta. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- sacra (Gmelin, 1789) - coastal SE Asia to Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, SW & S Pacific, Australia, New Zealand.
- albolineata (G. R. Gray, 1859) - New Caledonia, Loyalty Is.
