Other common names: Bonelli’s Warbler (when treated as conspecific with P. bonelli)
Taxonomy: Phyllopneuste orientalis C. L. Brehm, 1855, Wadi Halfa, Nubia, north Sudan.
Was until recently treated as conspecific with P. bonelli, but the two differ in vocalizations (primarily in calls) and also exhibit small differences in mitochondrial DNA. Monotypic.
Distribution: Breeds in SE Europe from Croatia S to Albania, N Greece, S Romania, Bulgaria and W & SW Turkey; isolated populations in Syria and Lebanon. Non-breeding E Africa (E Chad, SC Sudan and Eritrea).
