Taxonomy: Indicator pumilio Chapin, 1958, Tshibati, east Zaire.
No very close relationships apparent; has been linked by some authors with I. meliphilus, and in past with I. exilis. Monotypic.

Distribution: E Zaire to SW Uganda, W Rwanda and W Burundi.
