Taxonomy: Coccyzus pumilus Strickland, 1852, Trinidad; error = Venezuela.
Forms a superspecies with C. cinereus. Monotypic.
Distribution: Colombia (mainly on E slopes of Andes) through upper Orinoco Valley to NE Venezuela; recorded once in N Brazil (Roraima).
