Taxonomy: Cinnyris fuscus Vieillot, 1819, Great Namaqualand, Namibia.
Genus often subsumed in Nectarinia. Has been thought to form a superspecies with C. cupreus. Two subspecies recognized.

- inclusus (Clancey, 1970) - coastal SW Angola (Benguela, and Namibe S to R Cunene).
- fuscus Vieillot, 1819 - Namibia, W & C South Africa and S Botswana.
