Taxonomy: Charadrius bistriatus Wagler, 1829, Mexico.
Proposed race vigilans synonymous with nominate bistriatus. Four races recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- bistriatus (Wagler, 1829) - S Mexico S to NW Costa Rica.
- dominicensis (Cory, 1883) - Hispaniola.
- pediacus Wetmore & Borrero, 1964 - N Colombia.
- vocifer (L'Herminier, 1837) - Venezuela, Guyana and extreme N Brazil.
