Taxonomy: Charadrius bistriatus Wagler, 1829, Mexico.
Proposed race vigilans synonymous with nominate bistriatus. Four races recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • bistriatus (Wagler, 1829) - S Mexico S to NW Costa Rica.
  • dominicensis (Cory, 1883) - Hispaniola.
  • pediacus Wetmore & Borrero, 1964 - N Colombia.
  • vocifer (L'Herminier, 1837) - Venezuela, Guyana and extreme N Brazil.
