Taxonomy: Charadrius bicinctus Jardine and Selby, 1827, New South Wales.
Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- bicinctus Jardine & Selby, 1827 - New Zealand and Chatham Is; winters to S & E Australia, Tasmania, Norfolk I and Lord Howe I, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji.
- exilis Falla, 1978 - Auckland Is.
