Cuban Amazon (Amazona leucocephala) - HBW 4, p. 467

Other common names: Cuban Parrot, White-headed Amazon/Parrot

Taxonomy: Psittacus leucocephalus Linnaeus, 1758, eastern Cuba.
Forms superspecies with A. collaria and A. ventralis, and all may be conspecific. Birds of I of Pines formerly awarded race palmarum. Four subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • bahamensis (Bryant, 1867) - Bahamas, on Great Inagua and Abaco.
  • leucocephala (Linnaeus, 1758) - Cuba and I of Pines.
  • caymanensis (Cory, 1886) - Grand Cayman I.
  • hesterna Bangs, 1916 - Cayman Brac and formerly Little Cayman.
